IOWA CITY, Iowa - Rep. Pete Session, a Texan who leads the National Republican Congressional Committee, and Rep. Greg Walden of Oregon will headline a Wednesday event for Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who is leading Democrat incumbent Dave Loebsack in the latest polling and campaign fundraising reports.

Sessions and Walden will join Miller-Meeks at the University Athletic Club, 1360 Melrose Ave., from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday for a public event. "Admission is free but contributions to the candidate are appreciated," Miller-Meeks campaign manager Tracie Gibler said.

Miller-Meeks is one of the NRCC's "Young Guns." Founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Congressmen Eric Cantor, R-Va., Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and Paul Ryan, R-Wis., the Young Guns program began as a member-driven organization of House Republicans dedicated to identifying, recruiting, and mobilizing a new generation of conservative leaders.

First elected to Congress in 1996, Sessions focuses on reforms that will lead to a better life for all Americans. His goals in Congress include advancing jobs creation, providing quality education for all Americans, lowering taxes, reducing teen drug use, and guaranteeing the retirement security of every generation of Americans. Noting that character does matter, he believes that no elected official is above the law and must be accountable for their actions. He has served on the powerful House Rules Committee for 11 years. Best known for its role as legislative gatekeeper, the Rules Committee also has oversight of the congressional budget process, ethics process, and relations between Congress and the executive and judicial Branches. With the broad reach of the Rules Committee, Sessions is able to influence every piece of legislation before it reaches the House floor.

Walden is currently in his fifth term representing the people of Oregon's Second Congressional District. Walden serves of the Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.

"Pete Sessions and Greg Walden are respected, effective conservative leaders who are working hard to change the direction of this country by helping to elect candidates who will turn back the big-spending, economy-stalling, jobs-killing agenda that David Loebsack and Nancy Pelosi have forced on us the past four years," Miller-Meeks said. "I encourage everybody to join us on Wednesday to hear the vision that these two men have to help get our country back on the right track."
